Abstract Telescopic water intake structures allow for the selective of from top layers a reservoir. A telescopic has high degree mobility, and wide field application; at same time, it is very simple convenient to operate. Despite these advantages, an exact calculation method lacking (Lipin, 2020; Lipin, 2022). Therefore, purpose this research develop intake. In order perform task, all structural elements were analyzed separately by means existing hydraulic principles. The impact critical submergence depth funnel on operability was studied, equation proposed. optimal range flow rate coefficient ( μ =0.30 - 0.45) proposed calculating rate, correlation between inlet diameter defined. curvature radius elbow verify above mentioned parameters correlations, analytical numerical calculations specific examples performed. results modelling demonstrated that shape funnel, as defined calculations, ensured its effective operation free cavitation vortexes. analytically calculated dimensions column, following results, provided normal conditions without active cavitation. According modelling, sufficient avoid significant vortex formation in structure. This can provide guidance design structures.
